AU Lyric Theatre to perform 'Into the Woods'

Feb. 14—ANDERSON — Wishes, like actions, have real consequences, even to fictional characters.

That's the message of Anderson University's Boze Lyric Theatre's production of "Into the Woods," slated for the stage, Feb. 16-24.

Characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella and a Baker and his wife go into the woods.

The Baker and his wife found out from the Witch they're cursed with infertility. However, there's an antidote: the cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood, and the slipper as pure as gold.

These items are near and dear to the other characters. What are the Baker and his wife willing to do for these treasures? Is their wish worth the consequences?

The last question will be answered in Act II, which is all about the consequences of those wishes, according to Anya Burke, the AU senior portraying the Witch.

Into the Woods is a musical based on the work of James Lapine and Steven Sondheim. It features roughly 30 songs, including "Into the Woods" and "Giants in the Sky."

The songs will be played by an orchestra consisting of Anderson University faculty and professionals from Indianapolis.

They will be under the direction of Michael Sobie. Sobie was handpicked by Composer Ramin Djawadi to conduct the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience, according to director Jason James.
