The daughter of Ausra Plungiene has paid tribute to her mother, after a woman's body was found in the search for the missing dog walker.

Plungiene, 56, from Prestatyn, North Wales went for a walk with her dog Eyora at about 10.30am on Tuesday but failed to return home.

Her daughter Toma Plungauite Lamb wrote on social media: "Maybe I'll be satisfied… But then again… I know what it would do…

"Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you…

"I miss you mommy so much. My heart is broken without you."

A search for Plungiene was coordinated across Eryri national park (Snowdonia) after the alarm was raised and her car was found by officers in the Rowen area in the early hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

Mountain rescue team members discovered a body near Yr Aryg in the Carneddau mountain range on Thursday, while a dog was found alive at the scene.

Her family have been informed about the discovery, although no formal identification has yet taken place.

Plungiene's daughter, Toma Plungauite Lamb, had earlier appealed to anyone who may have information on her mother's whereabouts.

She told The Sun: “My mum is the most beautiful soul, who would do anything for anyone."

Police were investigating two possible sightings hours after Plungiene went missing, with searches by mountain rescue teams and RAF Search and Rescue taking place across the Carneddau mountains on Wednesday.

The teams continued with the search through snow and gale-force winds, with temperatures plummeting to 2C in the area overnight.

After a body was discovered, superintendent Owain Llewelyn said: “I would like to offer my thanks to all involved in the search for Ausra, in what have been extremely difficult weather conditions.

“Finally, I would appeal for Ausra’s family to be afforded some privacy during the coming days."
