The following article contains a discussion of the circumstances surrounding Avicii's death that some readers may find triggering.

The late DJ Avicii's family have released a statement about his passing at age 28.

Fans of EDM and many of Avicii's contemporaries have been paying tribute to the Swedish musician - whose real name was Tim Bergling - ever since he was tragically found dead in Muscat, Oman last Friday (April 26).

His family had released a statement earlier this week to thank his fans for sending them "loving words about [their] son and brother", and, on Thursday (April 26), shared another message to Digital Spy and other outlets in memory of the young star.

"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress," his family said.

"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.

"He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

"Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you, Your family."

Avicii retired from touring two years ago, following a period of ill health. Since news of his passing was announced, fellow DJs Calvin Harris, Skrillex and Martin Garrix are among the legions who have honoured Avicii's life and legacy.

Rita Ora, who collaborated with Avicii on the hit 'Lonely Together', wrote glowingly of how "amazing it was" to work with the DJ in her own social media remembrance.

"May he rest in peace," Rita added. "Gone too soon. I'm devastated. Heartbroken."
