Avicii Fans In Hospital After Boston Concert

Dozens of people have been admitted to hospital after attending an electronic dance show featuring Swedish DJ Avicii.

Authorities in Boston said many of the music fans at the TD Garden arena arrived intoxicated with drugs or alcohol on Wednesday night.

Some 36 people were taken to hospital, and as many as 50 others were treated or evaluated at the scene.

Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Mike Bosse said all of the patients' symptoms were minor.

He added that all of those transported and treated appeared to be between 16 and 25-years-old

Witnesses said they saw people being carried out of the venue on stretchers and others had passed out inside.

Julie Newell, 20, said: "There was one kid, it took four cops to get him down. He was on something."

Some music fans said they believed some of those taken ill had taken "Molly", a colloquial name for the drug MDMA.

Avicii spokeswoman Diana Baron said she was waiting for a full report from the venue and promoter.

Two people died over the weekend at a Las Vegas music festival attended by Avicii, who is one of the biggest names in electronic dance music.

On Monday, authorities said it would take several weeks to determine what caused the deaths of the fans at the Electric Daisy Carnival.

Police said nearly 800 people were treated for medical conditions and 25 were admitted to hospital during the three-night electronic music festival, which organisers said drew about 400,000 people to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Avicii's hit songs include Wake Me Up, Hey Brother and Levels, which was nominated for a Grammy for best dance recording last year.
