The second and final episode of Channel 4's heartbreaking documentary My Baby's Life: Who Decides? aired tonight (March 22).

And this instalment was just as heartbreaking as last week's.

The documentary followed children and babies being cared for at Southampton's Children's Hospital, as doctors and ethical committees debated whether treatment should be continued when the chances of some of the children surviving was so small.

"As difficult as these choices are, a choice has to be made," one of the medical specialists said.

We met 12-year-old quadriplegic Ellie-May, whose mother has fought for years to get her the treatment she needs to survive.

We also met baby Ollie, whose parents had been told his quality of life was going to be severely diminished.

At the end of the programme, we learned that Ollie's parents had decided to turn off his life support machine, as they felt that it was the right thing to do for his sake.
