Bad Boys: Ride or Die has received a mediocre Rotten Tomatoes rating based on first reviews.

The fourth film has debuted on the movie aggregator site with a score of 66%, based on 131 reviews. It's current rating sees it perform lower than the franchise's third film Bad Boys for Life, released in 2020, which received a 'Fresh' Rotten Tomatoes score of 76%.

The newly released Bad Boys 4 sees Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as legendary Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett who reunite for a case that hits close to home: proving the innocence of their late police captain (Captain Howard played by Joe Pantoliano).

Here's a round-up of what reviewers have been saying:

Digital Spy

"Bad Boys: Ride or Die is a bit like Inner Circle's iconic 'Bad Boys' song — a known tune we are kind of sick of hearing yet we still can't help but sing along. Still, it is an action-packed, enjoyable and playful new chapter for the saga, perfectly capable of convincing fans and non-believers."

The Hollywood Reporter

"The single best scene, however, only features the main characters as onlookers... The combination of the terrifically choreographed violent mayhem and Smith and Lawrence’s hilarious reactions give a taste of what a better Bad Boys film could have been."

Empire Magazine

"Scruffy and overstuffed, but contagiously good-natured. And frankly more films need to feature showdowns at abandoned alligator-themed amusement parks."

BBC

"The plot is nonsensical, the grenade-dodging stunts are even more nonsensical, and the internal logic is non-existent... But the film is fun enough in its chaotic, grungy, rough and ready way."

Financial Times

"Lawrence is still a raucous clown, happy to be seen with buttocks exposed to the ocean breeze. Settling back into their good-natured double act amid many nods to the first three movies, Smith remains the soulful smoothie."

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is now out in UK cinemas.
