Banbury United away game postponed due to waterlogged pitch

Banbury United's match away at Spennymoor Town has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Vanarama National League North game was scheduled for this evening, April 9, at 7.45pm, but heavy rain prompted a pitch inspection at 11am.

The pitch was declared unplayable, leading the fixture to be rescheduled for April 11 at 7.45pm.

Tickets bought for the original fixture will remain valid.

The match is the latest in a number of Banbury games which have been called off this year due to the weather.

The Puritans have suffered badly with flooding since Storm Henk caused widespread disruption in Oxfordshire earlier this year.

The club held a flood appeal auction on Saturday, April 6, which raised more than £4,000 to help with the cost of the flooding.

The match was set to provide Banbury with an opportunity to get their first win since January.

The Puritans have been on a terrible run of form since the start of the year, with Saturday's 1-1 draw against King's Lynn Town ending a run of 11 straight league defeats.

United need to find form as the season draws to a close and they battle to avoid relegation.

Banbury are 22nd in the league, third from bottom, and have picked up just four wins in the league all season - the fewest of any club.
