Banijay picked up the rights from Lego Masters producer Tuesday’s Child and will represent the format, with sales arm Banijay Rights selling finished tape for the ITV series. Tuesday’s Child, part of the STV Studios-owned Greenbird Media, is retaining format production rights in the U.S., similar to the deal structure it has in place with Banijay for the much-travelled Lego Masters.

The Fortune Hotel, hosted by The Split and Green Wing actor Stephen Mangan, follows 10 pairs of contestants who compete across eight episodes for £250,000 ($303,000). Each pair is given a briefcase, with one holding the cash and another an Early Checkout Card, which eliminates whoever is holding it at the end of each episode.

Each day, the contestants get the chance to uncover who has which case through challenges, with the audience knowing all along who has what. At the climax of each episode, each pair has to decide whether to keep or swap their case at the Lady Luck bar,.

In the UK, the show launches on linear net ITV1 and streamer ITVX next year.

The Fortune Hotel will launch on ITV1 and ITVX in 2024. Ben Wilson is Series Editor for Tuesday’s Child with Steph Harris as Executive Producer.

Helen Greatorex, Head of Format Acquisitions, Banijay and Simon Cox, EVP Content & Acquisitions, Banijay Rights said in a joint statement: “Building on our excellent long-standing partnership with Tuesday’s Child, we’re thrilled to now partner on The Fortune Hotel, the edge-of-your-seat competition series that provides twists aplenty in a fabulous sunny location.”

Karen Smith, Managing Director, Tuesday’s Child, added: “We’re delighted to, once again, be working with Banijay on this new high-paced event series, continuing our ever-fruitful partnership which began with global format sensation Lego Masters.”
