Bank holiday weekend weather: UK set for one day of sunshine, before 'persistent' showers hit

Brits are set to bask in one day of glorious sunshine this bank holiday weekend, before “very wet” weather hits parts of the UK.

On Saturday, revellers up and down the country will enjoy sunny conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 23C in the South East.

The sunny conditions will be short-lived, though, according to the Met Office, as heavy showers are set to hit the UK on Sunday and Monday.

Forecaster Alex Burkill said: “For many parts of the UK, particularly in England and Wales, it will be fine and sunny.

“Saturday will be the driest part of the weekend, but on Sunday there will be outbursts of rain reaching parts of the South East by the evening.”

Mr Burkill said Scotland will see “heavy and persistent” showers on Sunday and it will be “very wet” in other parts of the country.

In London, Mr Burkill said: “It will be a fine start to the day, but there will be clouds and an outbreak of rain.”

Temperatures in the capital, he predicted, would be 21C on Sunday.

The wet weather will then continue onto bank holiday Monday, he added. Parts of the country could see very heavy showers, he said, with some seeing “thundery conditions”.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the Met Office said: “It will be unsettled, breezy and cool across the north. Rain will introduce cooler conditions to southern areas on Sunday, with thundery showers possible on Monday and Tuesday.”
