Riding high in the Trip Advisor charts and a place that has been recommended to me by quite a few people is Coulton’s Bar & Grill’, located at The Trefnant Inn on Denbigh Road. From the outside, the inn looks as traditional as they come.

You will find the pub right next to a busy crossroads in the middle of the village of Trefnant. However, there is space for you can park your car directly behind the pub in its own private parking area.

The pub's blueprint appears to be a simple one with the offer of value deals on homemade specials such as classic pub grub and burgers. For instance, all mains are priced at £10 Monday to Thursday 4pm to 9pm.

The restaurant and grill have also just started offering a full English breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays, ideal for passing traffic on the way to the coast. They also offer a three-course Sunday lunch on the day of rest.

We notice a larger dining room and a smaller bar area, which has a few locals happily sipping their beers. It is a rambling stone-built pub with spacious seating and we take a table in the dining area, complete with red walls, a giant fish tank with music blaring from the speakers.

The menu has a burger section that offers various burgers in a brioche bun with baby gem lettuce. Mains include Thai linguine, lasagne, along with classic pub meals such as pie and chips or beer-battered fish and chips.

Their takeaway menu is available 7 days a week for collection and delivery Delivery service is through Denbigh drop-off. We see they offer a “mix box” with glazed chicken bites, loaded fries and nachos for £10.

We order a couple of halves of IPA and study the menu like we have an important exam on the contents in the morning. We could see the open kitchen from our table and listen to the satisfying sizzle from the clanking saucepans.

After a lot of deliberation, I went for the stir-fried noodles, served with peppers, onions in a sticky hoi sin and sweet chilli sauce. You could add either sauteed mushrooms, chicken or sirloin steak to the dish for no extra charge.

The chef certainly knew his onions as both dishes were beautifully presented on the plate and the bowl. My noodles were packed with a dark, rich, sweet and spicy (not to mention luscious) Asian sauce.

The peppers and vegetables were crunchy whilst the chicken was juicy and tasty. The whole bowl looked fantastic with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and spring onions on top for decoration.

My wife went for the Thai green curry, which was served with wild rice and naan bread. The curry sauce had a lovely sweet fragrant flavour but was also rich and creamy with a vibrant aftertaste.

She mopped up every last drop of the sauce with a naan bread. The wild rice had a nutty flavour due to the grains and also soaked up the curry sauce beautifully.

We were offered the dessert menu but politely declined as we were more than satisfied with what we had just eaten. The service here was brilliant with a young waiting team who could not do enough for you.

Coulton’s Bar and Grill has quietly built up a good reputation for its food and takeaway options over the past few months. You can’t really go far wrong when you serve up simple good old-fashioned pub grub at a reasonable cost, as long as it's tasty of course?

And I can categorically report that the food here is very tasty indeed.
