Bargain Hunt star, John Cameron, has provided fans with a reassuring update following his recent heart attack scare, which struck him down just minutes before he was due to begin filming for the beloved BBC daytime programme.

Now recovering at home and in the company of his pet pooch, the antiques guru expressed a heartfelt thank you to the NHS staff who witnessed him through the scary health issue.

John fell severely ill last week just 10 minute before the scheduled start time for filming an episode of Bargain Hunt.

He was immediately rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where he had to undergo emergency surgery for the placement of a stent.

The TV star turned to Instagram to vocalise his immense appreciation for the committed care he received from NHS staff, the Express reports.

Along with a snapshot of himself recuperating in his hospital bed, John wrote: "On a day when junior doctors stage a one-day strike over back pay, I would like to pledge my support and say a huge thank you to the St Mary's hospital drop-in centre."

John further extended his gratitude, mentioning: "The paramedics 'Jess' and 'Cat' who transported me to Queen Alexandra Hospital with sirens blaring, and the amazing emergency team in theatre who fitted me with a stent unblocking the artery that caused me to have a heart attack just 10 minutes before I was about to film a BBC Bargain Hunt auction at my firm Nesbits in Southsea."

Elaborating on his ordeal, he remarked: "Not sure how many of my 9 lives still remain but I definitely lost one yesterday. To quote the great ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, 'we have two lives, the second one begins when you realise you only have one.'"

The television favourite expressed his intention to take it easier, stating, "I will now be switching to a more friendly and renewable light source over the candle I have been burning at both ends! Sorry also to my wife, children, grandchildren, staff and friends for scaring the 'Eartha Kitt' out of them. #SupportTheNHS".

After being treated in hospital, John has returned home to recuperate. An update shared with his fans on Wednesday included a charming snapshot of him with his Border Terrier pup, Poppy.

In the photo, he's seen donning a T-shirt emblazoned with an ECG heartbeat line and the phrase "the beat goes on".

He added a caption to the image: "Today I will be mostly playing with Polly the Puppy. #borderterrier #supportthenhs."

John's fans flooded the comments section with messages of support. One fan wrote, "Hope you are feeling better and starting to heal," while another wished, "Get well soon John."

Another admirer sent their thoughts: "I hope you are feeling much better, take care of yourself".

Having left the hospital, John is now focusing on his recovery journey.
