Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson will star in season three of 'Top Boy'.

The final season of the Netflix series has gone into production in London and will feature 'The Batman' star Barry and 'Peaky Blinders' actor Brian as new characters Jonny and Tadgh.

They will join the regular cast Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, Simbi Ajikawo, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking and Araloyin Oshunremi in the upcoming series.

Episodes one to four will be directed by Myriam Raja, who was previously part of the 'Top Boy' season one mentee program, with Will Stefan Smith returning to direct the final two episodes.

'Top Boy' was created and written by Ronan Bennett and is executive produced by Drake and his business partner Adel 'Future' Nur, LeBron James, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson.

Stars Walters and Robinson are also executive producers.

The gritty crime drama - which is set on the fictional Summerhouse estate in Hackney, London - initially ran for two series on Channel 4 until it was cancelled in 2014 but it was revived by Netflix in 2019.

The original two Channel 4 series were renamed 'Top Boy: Summerhouse' and are available on the streaming service, along with the revival.

'Top Boy' creator and writer Bennett previously revealed his inspiration behind the series.

After the revival was announced, he said: "Ten years ago, I witnessed a 10-year-old boy dealing drugs outside my local supermarket.

"It made me question what was going on in my own community and led me to create 'Top Boy.' "

And star Ashley has heaped praise on Netflix's decision to take a chance on the rebooted show.

He added at the time: "It needs to be talked about and the show doesn't shy away from giving us the platform to tell our story. We can't change things if we do not acknowledge it and understand it first.

"Netflix is the perfect platform for this show, there aren't many networks who would be brave enough to keep it this real."
