Bates Motel ends with amazing but bittersweet finale
Warning: This article contains MAJOR spoilers about the series finale of Bates Motel.
Bates Motel came to a close on Monday night in the US – and the series finale had fans gripped right to the last second, as Norman Bates' fate was revealed.
In an episode filled with drama and suspense, Norman killed Alex Romero after Romero finally saw Norma's body – making the fatal error of turning his back – and Dylan delivered the gunshot which killed his brother, after Norman appeared to choose suicide and charged at him with a knife.
The final shot saw Norma and Norman – mother and son – buried together, reuniting in death.
It was a devastating but emotionally satisfying episode (let's not forget Dylan and Emma getting their happy ending!), with many fans applauding the show on social media.

Co-creators Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse told TVLine that Norman's fate had been decided from "the very beginning".
"We imagined it as a five-year journey ending with Norman's death," Cuse said.
Ehrin added: "The mythology of Psycho sort of locked us into Norman's death. If you're telling, like, this dark, profound love story and one person dies, it's very hard to even contemplate any other ending except that they would somehow be reunited, even if it's next to each other in the ground.
"There really was no other option."
