BBC MasterChef chaos seconds into show after contestant's medical emergency

One MasterChef contestant's time on the BBC One series was cut short after she cut the top of her finger off during a challenge. Charlotte, 42, who said she got inspiration for her plant-based cooking from travelling with her husband, was rushed out by producers as John Torode told her she needed medical attention.

Prior to the drama, Charlotte told cameras: "What I get out of cooking that I don't get out of my day job is a bit of therapy, it's very relaxing, it's my way to keep calm at the end of a stressful day although I don't think this is exactly therapy today."

When asked what she was making, she told Gregg Wallace of her dish: "Potsticker dumplings with a fiery chilli sauce, a Sichuan and green chilli oil, and then some crispy chilli peanuts. Vegan food isn't just about hemp seeds, and chickpeas, it can be really exciting and fresh and flavourful.

"I'm trying to go as fast as I can so I can do all the things I need to," Charlotte then told the cameras, but just seconds later she had injured herself. "Oh, sorry," she said: "I've just cut my finger. Can I have a plaster?"

"Yeah, it's on its way," a producer then said before the camera panned to Charlotte's bloody finger and she informed the crew: "Quite a lump out."

It was John, however, who told Charlotte the injury was worse than she thought and that she would need medical attention. He said: "I'm sorry to say you've taken the top of your finger off, and that means you're probably going to need to go and get sorted out."

Remaining lighthearted, the contestant said: "I was trying to go big or go home, and now I'm doing both." John then told BBC viewers: "Sadly, Charlotte has cut herself, and she had to leave the MasterChef kitchen for medical attention, so she won't be finishing off her dish."

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react, as one wrote: "Did they have to show us the top of her finger cut off?"

While another said: "I was not prepared for someone chopping the end of their finger off in the first 30seconds of #MasterChef tonight."

"Do we really need to see the blood and the sliced finger...." wrote a third, while a fourth added: "What the hell #MasterChef the whole tip of her finger was on the chopping board." You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.
