BBC News' Aaron Heslehurst has announced his departure from the broadcaster after 22 years in a series of emotional posts.

Writing on X/Twitter, Heslehurst explained that this week would be his last with the broadcaster, and thanked fans for their support over the years.

"I guess it's time to share something with you," he wrote. "This week will be my very last show at the BBC. After 30 yrs in TV news & 22.5 of them at the BBC it's time to close this chapter!

"For those who've enjoyed my shows over the years I say THANK YOU! It's been an honour & a privilege."

In his follow-up post, he wrote: "With tears in my eyes and hand on heart — I was not expecting (at all) such an outpouring of love & gratitude!

"You know, you just do your job day in & day out and never really realise its impact on people.

"So, I can't thank you enough. I'll still be here on X so stick with me."

In response to a friend, Heslehurst explained that at 57 years old, he wanted to "pack it in while I'm still walking" and will take part in conferences, chairing and moderating, and other special projects going forward.

His departure leaves a gap in Business Today and Talking Business with Aaron Heslehurst. A replacement host for the latter show has not been announced at the current time.

Helsehurst's co-star Ben Thompson shared a touching tribute, calling him "a brilliant friend, not just a colleague".

Thompson also thanked him for "all the words of wisdom, the many wines and for making me laugh most days for twenty years."

Jeremy Vine also left a message for Heslehurst, writing: "You are such a bloody star," while Martin Lewis wrote: "Good luck in your next adventure. Hope it's as successful as the last."
