The BBC has tweeted out a job advert as they look to find a new chief presenter for its breakfast TV show, following Dan Walker’s decision to move to Channel 5.

Earlier this year, Walker announced he was quitting his position on the famous red sofa – leaving the BBC to find a replacement for him ahead of his final day on May 17.

In a tweet posted by the BBC Careers account, a link to the vacancy was shared alongside the message: “BBC Breakfast has been a morning staple with viewers across the nation for over 20 years ☕ We are looking for our a new Chief Presenter to wake up the nation on our iconic red sofa.”

The chosen presenter will be working 3 days a week (normally Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) with some flexibility to work other days on the programme if needed.

The job advert reads: “A BBC Breakfast presenter needs to combine the knowledge and confidence to deal with the main stories and the ability to entertain and inform millions of viewers.

Meanwhile, the permanent contract confirms that the job will include one of the top pay packages available at the BBC.

Under pay grade, it lists 'FP' which, according to the National Audit Office, is a top-level pay packet.

The new presenter will take over from Walker, 45, who announced he is leaving the BBC after 13 years to host Channel 5's 5pm news programme.

Explaining the reason for his move, the father-of-three said: "I've never ever been motivated by money in any job that I've ever taken, and even though I've loved working at BBC Breakfast and everybody who works on the show, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a brilliant team at Channel 5."

You can apply for the role on the BBC website.
