BBC The Responder series two episodes, full cast, start date and time

The Responder is about to return to our screens for an eagerly-anticipated second series.

The hit BBC show follows Chris Carson, a morally compromised urgent response officer tackling a string of night shifts on the beat in Liverpool. Martin Freeman has reprised the role for season two, which takes place six months after the first series ended.

Written by former Merseyside Police officer Tony Schumacher, the award-winning drama returns on Sunday, May 5. The Responder has been filmed on location around Liverpool with Dancing Ledge Productions - whose previous projects include The Salisbury Poisonings and Porters.

Series two begins with Chris attempting to rebuild his life, mend his relationship with his wife, and avoid the corruption that nearly sucked him under. We will also be introduced to Chris' dad, who will be played by Bernard Hill.

Chris is trying to be a better police officer, a better man, and most importantly, a better father to his daughter Tilly. Working as a night response officer comes with relentless trauma. Chris needs a day job - but how far will he go to get one?

How many episodes of The Responder are there?

As with the first series, the second season will consist of five episodes. The first of these airs on Sunday, May 5, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer once the first instalment has aired.
