BBC The Responder's Martin Freeman and Tony Schumacher issue season three update

The Responder's Martin Freeman and Tony Schumacher have issued their verdict on whether they'd be up for reteaming for another season of the hit BBC show.

The second series of the crime drama arrived on our screens earlier this month and has once again received wall to wall five star reviews. The final episode will be broadcast tonight, which sees Chris Carson's attempts to rebuild his personal life while evading the villainous Franny Sutton reach its thrilling climax.

Martin has won acclaim for his portrayal of the troubled first response officer and told the ECHO he wants to enjoy the success of this season before considering whether he'd return for a potential third series. The star said: "In my mind, I'm just enjoying that this is going out. I would need a little sit down after this to enjoy it and give it time to bed in."

Show creator Tony Schumacher agreed as he joked creating a show infused with such stress and nail-biting tension takes its toll. He said: "When we find a really good therapist, we're going to sit down and talk about it. Until then, I don't know yet."

The Huyton writer laughed: "We've got a little caravan in Rhyl so we're going to go there with me and Martin and have a little week away" Martin joked: "We're going to write a show about wrestling."

The Office star also hailed the support the show has received from people in Liverpool and said he always enjoys filming here. He added: "The city itself made it easy here. The people have been very warm about it all. I hate stereotypes and thinking Scousers are all like this because they're not all funny. They're not all warm but a lot of them actually are.

"It was great and, considering most of it was late nights so you're knackered and drawing on very little reserves, then if you weren't enjoying it it would be hard. But I didn't have a single bad day in this job.

"It was all hard work but in the best possible way. The reviews are great but even without that I'd be proud of this show. Even if we were the only ones that rated it."

The Responder season two finale airs on BBC One tonight at 9pm. You can stream all episodes on iPlayer
