BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans warn Katya Jones 'show won't be same' after her statement

BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans have warned Katya Jones the show "won't be the same" without Giovanni Pernice. Katya, a BBC pro dancer, confirmed her return to the programme for another series with an announcement on social media this week.

She typed: "Ready! Steady! Dance! 20 years of Strictly Come Dancing and my 9th year! Thank you for your continuous love and support for the show that gave Ballroom Dancing the acknowledgement that none of us - ballroom dancers- could have ever dreamt of.

"Let’s keep the magic going for another 20!" In reply, a fan warned: "Great your back but not going to be the same without Gio." A second said: "I'm so happy you're back! I hope you will have a partner who can dance because your choreographies are the best."

"So pleased you’re back…you nearly made it last time…another win for you would be the icing on the cake," another wrote. Giovanni's eight-year tenure on the show has taken a turn after his partner, Amanda Abbington, branded him "nasty" following allegations of "threatening and abusive" behaviour during training sessions, which Giovanni adamantly denies.

The BBC initiated an internal investigation upon receiving complaints from other former dance partners, including Laura Whitmore. Katya has featured in the BBC competition since 2016 and remains a favourite among the professionals.

She was married to fellow professional Strictly star Neil Jones from 2013 until they split in 2019. Opening up on working with her ex and whether or not if it's there is any "awkwardness," the 35-year-old replied: "Not at all".

Speaking to OK!, the Russian dancer continued: "Neil and I have always made it clear that we’re still good friends. Everybody knows that. It’s truly nice to see him so happy in life." She went on: "Whatever anyone wants to make me into, opinions don’t define me, so I don’t connect with them or make life decisions based on that. I just live my life and enjoy it!"
