A former dance partner of Giovanni Pernice, Korina Travis, has come forward with allegations that he did 'horrendous things to her' during their time working together at private events.

Travis's statement emerges amidst a flurry of controversy surrounding the Strictly Come Dancing star, as Giovanni finds himself at the centre of "abuse" claims after his recent appearance on the show.

In the latest series, Giovanni was paired with actress Amanda Abbington, who left the competition early for medical reasons. Abbington later claimed she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder triggered by her experience on Strictly, and sources suggest she described Giovanni's training manner as "abrasive".

Reports then surfaced that Abbington requested to review behind-the-scenes footage of their rehearsals. Following these developments, it is reported that a BBC investigation is underway concerning Giovanni, with three of his previous partners allegedly engaging legal representation.

The broadcaster is reportedly in the process of "evidence gathering", amid the rumours that the additional celebrities have sought legal advice, reports the Mirror.

Amidst this turmoil, speculation is rife that Giovanni has departed from Strictly after a nine-year tenure. As Giovanni garners media attention, Travis has chosen this moment to speak out about her past experiences with him.

Speaking to The Sun, she alleged: "I've known him for years as a fellow competitor and he has done horrendous things to me. I will not speak about my experiences with him but I'm glad the world is seeing him for who he truly is."

However, she didn't provide further specifics regarding their alleged encounters.

Mirror Online has approached Giovanni's representatives for a response. The dancer addressed the situation on Sunday, vehemently denying any "rejecting any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour" through his Instagram account.

His post stated: "To my dear fans, You will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week. Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name. Those who have followed my journey on Strictly Come Dancing over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive.

"No one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me. I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win - for me and my dance partners. Thank you all once again for your continued love and support! Giovanni."
