BBC Three Unveils New Logo Ahead Of Online Move

BBC Three has had a major rebrand ahead of its move to online in February.

The channel, which will cease transmission next month, will now be sporting the above logo featuring two Roman numerals and an exclamation mark.

“The new icon represents BBC Three’s three pillars, make me think, make me laugh and give me a voice. That is what new BBC Three is all about,” says BBC Three’s Head of Marketing, Niki Carr.

In a blog post discussing the reasons for the rebrand, Carr says the channel hasn’t changed its logo in eight years and needed a more contemporary look as it moves online - something that “fits the digital world”.

“We needed to develop something that worked on a TV screen and as an app icon. Look at Snapchat. They’re doing okay without having Snapchat in their logo,” she explained.

As well as unveiling the new logo, BBC Three has previewed a raft of new programming for 2016 including a follow-up to the acclaimed one-off drama, Murdered By My Boyfriend, which won a BAFTA.

Murdered By My Father will be joined by Doctor Who spinoff, Class, and Murder Games on the channel.

Comedies Josh, People Just Do Nothing and Murder in Successville will all return. There’ll also be new documentaries from Professor Green and Reggie Yates.
