Sorry Rylan! Too bad Alan Carr! The BBC has passed you both over to give its next primetime chatshow to… Vladimir Putin?!

Yes, it's true… well, kinda. The two-part Tonight With Vladimir Putin will be presented by a brutish CGI representation of the Russian premier who towers over his celebrity guests.

The show is being billed as a "semi-scripted comedy chatshow format" using CGI technology created by studio Framestore to allow for a motion-captured 'Putin' to move around the set while interacting with his real guests.

In the first episode, 'Putin' will chat with former Labour Party communications czar Alastair Campbell (see what we did there?) about the state of British politics, and then delve deep into the esteemed career of ex-Loose Women and Michael Jackson: The Search for...His Spirit presenter June Sarpong.

The following episode will feature the Russian political boss finally tackling the big questions as he tries to figure out: "Who is Joe Swash?" Joining him to work out that conundrum will be... I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp presenter Joe Swash.

'Putin' will also debate the state of modern feminism with Deborah Frances-White of the Guilty Feminist podcast, while admittedly having only a sketchy understanding of the subject matter.

In both episodes, 'Putin' will be brought to life by Have I Got News for You veteran Natt Tapley.

Is there a chance Tonight With Vladimir Putin will be trainwreck telly? Yes, of course – but surely it couldn't be any more cringey than ITV's The Nightly Show.

Tonight With Vladimir Putin will soon be premiering its two-part pilot on BBC Two.
