The BBC has shared a first-look trailer for the final series of Inside No. 9.

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s dark comedy anthology show is coming to an end next month after an apt nine series.

Now, a new trailer has been released teasing what fans can expect from the final six episodes of the show, known for its unpredictable twists and turns.

Episodes of the comedy are linked only by the number nine, and the new clip reveals some of the all-important settings for the final batch of episodes, including an Edwardian country house and an escape room.

Described as a "deadly mixture of classical music, dubious morals and murders at midnight", the new series will also feature nosy neighbours, grave robbers, and even illicit visits to the toilet.

The opening episode of the final series, titled ‘Boo to a Goose’, takes place at a train station and will air on Wednesday, May 8 at 10pm.

This instalment will mark the series’ 50th film and has a particularly starry cast that includes Happy Valley’s Siobhan Finneran, Line of Duty’s Mark Bonnar, This Country’s Charlie Cooper and Taskmaster’s Susan Wokoma.

The synopsis for the episode reads: "Late-night passengers get stuck in a tunnel when their train breaks down. They wait for the replacement service until a nurse gets her purse stolen and tempers start to fray."

Also set to appear during the farewell season of Inside No. 9, as revealed in December, are the likes of Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly, Back to Black’s Eddie Marsan, Boiling Point’s Vinette Robinson and Gavin and Stacey’s Adrian Scarborough.

Filming for the final season concluded in February, and creators Pemberton and Shearsmith, who have each appeared in almost every episode of the show, took to social media to mark the sad occasion.

"What a journey the last ten years have been," wrote Shearsmith. "But today we arrived at the final stop. So long. Farewell. And thanks for all your kind support and love for the show over the years. We’ll miss it."

The ninth series of Inside No. 9 will premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Wednesday, May 8 at 10pm.
