Summer holidays abroad are a tradition for many, offering an opportunity to unwind and immerse oneself in a foreign culture.

Beach destinations are often the go-to choice for holidaymakers, with Spain, Greece and Italy being long-standing favourites for sun-seekers. However, these popular spots can come with a hefty price tag, leading travellers to seek out more affordable alternatives.

Europe is home to numerous lesser-known locations that offer the quintessential beach holiday experience without the high costs associated with more mainstream destinations. One such place is the beach resort of Constanta in Romania.

Direct flights from Liverpool Airport to Bucharest, Romania's capital, are available with Wizz Air, starting from approximately £52 one way in June. A two-hour journey from Bucharest will take you to Constanta, situated on Romania's Black Sea Coast.

Constanta boasts a rich history dating back to 600 BC, making it one of Europe's oldest cities. Over the centuries, it has been occupied by various groups, resulting in a mix of Roman, Bulgarian, Byzantine and Ottoman influences, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Among its attractions is a stunning art nouveau casino overlooking the sea, which serves as a popular photo spot for tourists.

Constanta is home to Mamaia Beach, a five-mile stretch of rare white sand. The beach is a hit with holidaymakers due to its affordability - a draught beer costs around £1.50 and meals average at about £7 per person.

Mamaia is dotted with numerous beach bars and restaurants, offering a variety of dining options. The nightlife scene is also vibrant for those who enjoy it.

The beach season in Constanta typically runs from mid-June to September, with summer temperatures averaging a comfortable 23C, making it a more pleasant alternative to the intense heat of Spain and other Mediterranean countries.
