A Chinese restaurant is giving away free meals to customers - if they're judged to be one of the 50 best looking visitors each day.

Every day the most attractive diners at the restaurant in Zhengzhou, a city in the central province of Henan, will get a free meal – as judged by a team of plastic surgeons at the door.

Any customer that misses out on claiming a prizes at this slightly surreal beauty pagent can get advice on what plastic surgery they need, so that the next time they visit they might qualify for a free meal.

The project - which is running until the middle of February - features three staff from a plastic surgery clinic who make a decision every half hour, and subsequently pick five customers who scored the highest according to their ‘rules’ on appearance.

De Wei, a spokesman for the judges, explained: ‘The rules for the beauty contest are very detailed. We have four categories namely face, eyes, nose and mouth.

‘For face we look for example for a protruding forehead, whereabouts the tip of the noses, and its position with the top lip and chin. For real beauty the eyebrows need to be in line with the inner edges of the eyes and the outer edges of the nose.

‘For the eyes, the distance between the two pupils should be 63 mm for men and 51 mm for women. The distance between the outer most parts of each eye should be 90 mm for men and 85 mm for women.

‘For the nose, men should have a flat column and women should have a concave column. The width of one’s nose should be the same as that of one’s eye.’

De also added: ‘For the mouth, the side of one’s mouth should be only slightly larger than that of the distance between both eyes. The distance between the nostrils to the top lip should be one-third of the thickness of both lips together.’

However it appears that the “experts” are not picking the winners comparing pictures of people halfway through their meal, but from a picture that is taken when they come in and order.

Could this be a trend coming to your local high street anytime soon? Probably not.
