Beecham House viewers were left on tenterhooks by tonight's (July 21) season finale thanks to an agonising cliffhanger – and worse, the ITV show haven't yet confirmed if there'll be a second season.

The season finale saw an imprisoned John Beecham (Tom Bateman) finally discover that he'd been betrayed by Samuel Parker (Marc Warren), while his lover Margaret (Dakota Blue Richards), his brother Daniel (Leo Suter), and Chandrika (Pallavi Sharda) desperately tried to get him released.

The episode seemed to be heading towards a happy ending, as Beecham took Margaret to see the Taj Mahal and she said yes to his marriage proposal. However, after getting in their carriage, it was revealed that Samuel had been watching them the whole time – and he didn't look too pleased.

Upon their return home, they then discovered that their house staff had been brutally killed and that baby August had been taken. But with no confirmation of a second series just yet, fans have been left to stew over the cliffhanger.

One viewer tweeted: "Arrrrgh! What an ending and that cliff hanger! Seriously, no season 2?"

While another wrote: "I now want #Season2 even more badly than before. Sort it out @ITV please. You can’t leave us hanging like this. And also we need that Baadal Chanchal happy end."

Fingers crossed that both program creator Gurinder Chadha and ITV listen to the fans.

Beecham House airs on ITV.
