Belfast Grime Man creates emotional song in honour of young mum Rachael Burns who has been given weeks to live

The Belfast Grime Man has created a new emotional song highlighting the struggles of a young mum from West Belfast who has been given months to live following a devastating cancer diagnosis.

Rachael Burns, 22, was given the heartbreaking news earlier this month after experiencing severe headaches and discomfort in her eye eight months ago.

Doctors had originally believed that this was caused by dehydrated eyes, but further scans in hospital revealed that Rachael had developed a brain tumour with a rare and aggressive mutation.

Rachael has a one-year-old daughter called Raeya with her partner Robert and she is desperate to find some form of treatment that would be able to prolong her life and give her more time with beloved family.

Recently The Belfast Grime Man, Alan Braniff, contacted Rachael after reading her story in the hopes of helping her share her fundraiser, which has now raised over £66,000.

Alan lost his mum following a battle with cancer when he was very young and later wrote a rap in tribute to her called 'My World' where he describes how difficult it was to lose her and how he hopes she is looking down on him with pride.

He has now created a special song for Rachael highlighting her current situation and how hard it has been for her and her family as she plans to pre-write birthday cards for Raeya so that she will always know how much she is loved by her mum.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Alan said: "Over the past few weeks I have been speaking with Rachael and she has become quite a good friend and my heart is completely broken for her, Raeya, her partner Robert and the rest of her family.

"In the song I tried to put myself in her shoes and understand the devastating position that she is being given only months to live and her fears of never seeing her beautiful daughter grow up.

"I just hope that something can be done for Rachael and her treatment is successful so that she can continue being a wonderful mum for Raeya."

Speaking to Belfast Live, Rachael said that the song is something she will "forever treasure" and that even though the pair have only known each other for a few weeks, his song felt like they had been friends for years due to the way he was able to describe the struggles she is going through.

Rachael said: "Alan reached out to me online when he read my story and has been an amazing support and so full of motivation to help this fundraiser in anyway he can. He wrote me a song that had such an impact on all of those who know me due to how he was able to write about someone who should be a stranger yet he spoke like he’d known me for years.

"I was in tears listening to the song when he sent me it, I couldn’t thank him enough, it made everything feel so real and helped me process this whole situation I’m experiencing a bit better as it’s felt like watching a movie of someone else’s life recently.

"I’d like everyone to share the song as far as you can as Alan deserves so much recognition for all he has done. His music is just beautiful and it’s a gift I’ll forever treasure."
