Ben Shephard jokes Kate Garraway has ‘changed’ after she wears MBE to work on GMB
The star was recognised for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity
Ben Shephard joked that his Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway had “changed” after she showed up to work with her MBE.
The TV presenter was recognised in the New Year Honours for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity and collected her award from Prince William at a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (28 June).
She took it to the ITV show with her the following day and pinned it on to the front of her jacket as she hosted alongside Shephard, gently teasing him about not having one of his own.

Shephard was saying good morning to viewers when Garraway interjected: “Hang on, I’m sorry, I am running a bit late, I have forgotten to put something on this morning.”

Her co-host smirked as he told her: “You have changed Kate Garraway, you have changed!”
Garraway pinned the MBE on, saying: “There we go.”
“Look at that!” she exclaimed as Shephard laughed.
However, Garraway seemed to suggest that she wasn’t actually meant to be wearing it out and about, as she said "you are not actually supposed to do this".
When Shephard asked about it, she couldn't resist poking fun at him for not having one.
Affecting a royal wave she teased: “When you have your MBE Ben, something I think many people are familiar with…!”
The TV star attended the ceremony with her parents Gordon and Marilyn Garraway and her husband Derek Draper, who spent a year in hospital after battling COVID.
Garraway shared another anecdote from the ceremony, as she admitted she had not recognised footballer Gareth Bale.
She said: "I was walking along pushing Derek through and we walked past somebody, a very dashing young man and a beautiful girl with him, and I was taken by her and said congratulations to her lovely outfit and as we went past Derek said, ‘That was Gareth Bale’.”

The star said it later happened again as she was recounting to another group how she hadn’t recognised Bale, when a man said she’d also “done it with me” and it turned out to be Liverpool footballer Andy Robertson.
