The 40-year-old actor and his wife, 38, are set to give their 16-month-old son Christopher Carlton Cumberbatch a baby brother or sister sometime in the Spring.

According to reports, they revealed the happy news at the New York premiere of Benedict’s new film Doctor Strange last night and it’s believed the star wants another son, as he previously teased he’d love the couple to have a “(Cumber)batch of boys.”

Benedict and Sophie got married on Valentine’s day last year, but revealed just two months after getting engaged that they were expecting their firstborn.

In a statement released when Christopher was born, they said: “Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son. We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks.”

Benedict previously credited ‘Doctor Strange’ for "getting him through” the early days of parenthood as he had grown accustomed to getting up at 4am in order to work out for the Marvel blockbuster.

He said: “That actually got me through being a first time father. I say that as if I was the one getting up. Sophie really was incredibly for the first few months.”
