Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson has given fans an update on a potential return for the popular ITV show.

The programme was axed back in 2018, to the disappointment of many viewers. But its creator Derren Litten is said to have 70 episodes ready to go.

Sherrie, 73, appeared on today's Good Morning Britain, and said her character Joyce Temple-Savage could be making a comeback. She said: "Everybody watches it now and everybody stops me in the street and says they want it back.

"I think it would be good as a film and it could bring everyone from everywhere who has ever been on Benidorm. It could bring their stories back and together. I think it would be brilliant ... two and a half hours, as opposed to half an hour.

"I think it would be very funny. Derren Litten, he loves the idea, but it's not for me to say obviously. He's a brilliant writer and I know he'd write the most wonderful film."

When host Susanna Reid added that Derren had said he had 70 episodes written already, Sherrie added: "I know! These days we're living in right now, we need this", as reported by the Mirror.

Back in 2018, Derren took to Twitter, now X, to confirm Benidorm had been canned. He said: "Yes folks it's true, after months of speculation, I can finally confirm Benidorm series 10 was the LAST EVER TV SERIES of @BenidormTVshow".
