Berlin’s police department has defended its officers after they were expelled from the G20 summit for a wild party that included public sex and urination.

Around 220 officers were released from duty for the July summit after the raucous scenes, which included a policewoman, clad in a bathrobe and carrying her gun, performing a strip dance.

There were claims people were seen urinating against fences and romping in the outdoors as the party went on.

In a statement on Facebook, Berlin police held their hands up, said their officers were only human, and admitted: “Yes, we partied.”

It went on: “They drank, danced, p****d and, yes, apparently also bonked, as our press officer put it so well.”

But it went on: “We invite you to get a personal picture of this professional work, and to convince yourselves that we are not party police, but rather we are the capital's professional police force.”

The decadent party had been thrown to celebrate the birthdays of two police officers at their temporary accommodation in Hamburg.

After the story made the front pages of several German papers, social media users celebrated the antics using the hashtag #partypolizei.

The G20 summit is due to be held in Hamburg on July 7 and 8.
