Best Dad Ever: Welder Builds Son His Own Transformer

Anyone who desperately wanted a Galvatron or Ultra Magnus toy as a kid will know only too well the excitement at getting the latest Transformer - so imagine how this boy feels.

His dad didn’t just buy him a toy - he built him a life-sized robot from the mega-franchise and he is now the envy of his local village (not to mention every child of the 80s).

Wang Liansheng, a village welder in Jingtou Town, China, created the 5-metre-tall (16.4 feet), 3-tonne Autobot, Bumblebee, with help from his brother, Wang Yugan.

He was inspired to work on the year-long project after taking his boy to see the latest Transformers film last year.

Using spare car parts in his scrapyard, Liangsheng got to work building the ultimate toy.

He said: “I took my son to watch a Transformers movie in July, and afterwards he asked me for a robot.

"I bought him a toy model, but he said he wanted a life-size one.

“I said I couldn’t afford one, but I could build one.

“And that’s how it began - from a promise to my son.”

The two brothers started collection spare puts and putting them together whenever they had the time, altho they never actually thought they would finish the project.

Unlike the classic Transformer packaging with step-by-step instructions, the brothers had no idea on what to base the robot on so they did their own research online and simple copied the design instinctively.

Liangsheng took the faux Bumblebee apart and reassembled it over and over in order to perfect the look

He added said: "Gradually over the past year, the project just fell into place and we built the big guy.

“Although I have to say I never considered it totally finished until I painted it a few days ago.”

The iconic yellow glow of Bumblebee attracted more than just children to his workshop, as villagers from miles away came to his home for a peek at his creation.

Despite building the robot as a promise to his son, Liansheng now thinks he can make a business out of it.

He has already begun work on his next project - to build Autobot leader (and arguably the most popular Transformer there is), Optimus Prime.

We’re getting our orders in already.
