A Leeds comedians’ mum was surprised with a phone call from Simon Cowell after her son didn’t tell her that he was auditioning for Britain's Got Talent.

Alex Mitchell appeared on the ITV hit show tonight and impressed the judges and audience with his humour about dating as an autistic man who also has ticks.

At the end of his audiation it was clear that Alex was was overwhelmed with emotion after the response to his performance. Speaking to the audience, he said: “This is lovely and it's a dream come true. Thank you so much, goodnight."

The 23-year-old teaching assistant went on to reveal that he hadn't told anyone in his family that he'd be taking part in the competition.

Amanda said: "Honestly I didn't stop laughing from start to finish. That was an amazing set." Simon added: "I think a great comedian is fearless and funny - you are both. You did great."

Alex made it through to the next round after receiving four yeses from the judges. Simon then surprised him and told him to call his parents to let them know how well he did.

Speaking to his mum, Simon said: "Becky? I want to speak to you about your son. As you know, he's at a stag do tonight and his behaviour has been absolutely appalling!"

Becky responded: "I am so sorry, he gets that from his father's side. Simon went on to say: "Actually, it's Simon Cowell from BGT. Your son was incredible tonight and is through to the next round of Britain's Got Talent.”

Alex’s mum, Becky was shocked as she responded: "Oh my god, I can't believe it. That's fabulous. I am so pleased and proud of you, I want to give you the biggest hug ever."
