A woman has died after being pulled from the water at a Devon waterfront. The casualty, believed to be in her 70s and from Bideford, was retrieved from Sutton Harbour Marina in Plymouth in the early Sunday morning, May 12, after reports a woman was in the water.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the situation around 2.30am, with support from the South Western Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, and a Ministry of Defence Police boat. Despite the rapid response and treatment by paramedics, the woman sadly passed away at the scene.

The police have stated that they are not treating the death as suspicious and will be preparing a file for the coroner, reports Plymouth Live.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed: "Police were notified at around 2.30am on Sunday 12 May following reports of a woman in the water at Sutton Harbour Marina, Plymouth. The ambulance service, HM Coastguard and MOD Police boat were also called."

They added: "She was recovered from the water and treated by paramedics. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman died at the scene. The woman is believed to be in her 70s and from the Bideford area. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said teams were sent from the Plymouth and Yealm stations to assist, alongside a Plymouth RNLI lifeboat.

According to an HM Coastguard representative who spoke to PlymouthLive at the time: "HM Coastguard assisted Devon and Cornwall Police following reports of a person possibly in the water in the Sutton Harbour area, Plymouth. Alerted at around 2.45am today (12 May), Coastguard Rescue Teams from Plymouth and Yealm and the inshore lifeboat from Plymouth RNLI were sent to the scene."
