Biden wins Montana Democratic primary

President Biden has won the Democratic primary in Montana, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.

The win in Big Sky Country is set to notch the presumptive Democratic nominee another 20 delegates en route to his party’s nominating convention this summer.

Only Biden and former President Trump appeared on the presidential primary ballots, but voters had a chance to cast a vote for a “no preference” option, which some Montanans were reportedly pushing for as the incumbent faces frustration and primary protest votes from within his party over his handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

Biden’s not expected to win the deep-red state in November. Trump took Montana by 20 percentage points against Hillary Clinton back in 2016, and beat Biden there by 16 points in 2020. The latest 2024 forecasts from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill have the 45th president easily favored to win the state again this fall.

Montana is among a final batch of the state primaries Tuesday night. The U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam will hold Democratic contests next week, and then focus will kick toward the party conventions this summer.
