Big Brother has had a lot of controversial twists in its day - who can ever forget 2004's Fight Night or Stephen Bear being confronted by his girlfriend over cheating - but Wednesday's episode may be a new low.

The episode was called Blood Money, and it turns out that was a very fitting title. To catch up, housemates have been collecting currency calling Big Coin over the last week to help them in the game in various ways.

This week, having Big Coin is crucially important because the three housemates with the lowest totals will be nominated for eviction on Friday night (September 21). Going into Wednesday's show, Anamélia, Tomasz and Cameron were at the bottom of the totals while Akeem, Kenaley and Sîan were at the top.

That brings us to the Blood Money game, where housemates were brought to the task room and forced to dip their hands into a bowl of a 'blood' to remove giant-sized coins that gave them specific powers at a random draw. Nasty powers!

For example, Isaac had to choose one other housemate to lose half of their Big Coin total. There was an audible gasp in the room as he stripped Kenaley of half of her total.

Lewis G had an even more difficult choice, as he was told he'd have to completely bankrupt another housemate. He didn't even hide his glee when he literally sung out out Anamélia's name, as she silently stared back at him.

Here's a rundown of some of the punishments and rewards:

  • Sian chose Akeem to lose 200 Big Coins.

  • Kay pulled her own name and lost 50 Big Coins.

  • Brooke chose Akeem to loose 100 Big Coins.

  • Anamélia chose to double Tomasz's Big Coin total.

  • Kenaley chose Sian to lose 150 Big Coins.

  • Lewis F chose his own name and lost 50 Big Coins.

  • Isaac chose Kenaley to lose half of her Big Coins.

  • Lewis G chose to bankrupt Anamélia.

  • Cian chose to give Cameron 250 Big Coins.

  • Zoe chose her own name and lost 250 Big Coins.

  • Tomasz chose to give Anamélia 100 Big Coins.

At the end of the game, viewers were reeling after one of the most ruthless competitions in the history of the show:

The task was even was giving a former Big Brother contestant some anxiety:

As expected, Lewis G had everyone talking for gleefully bankrupting Anamélia, especially after he admitted he had no regrets:

As a result of Blood Money, the housemates now in danger of facing eviction on Friday night are Sian, Anamélia and Lewis F. Can they somehow earn enough Big Coin to save themselves before tomorrow night?

Big Brother continues on Thursday (September 20) at 10pm on Channel 5, followed by Bit on the Side at 11.05pm.
