A swap deal involving Wales centre-back Joe Rodon and Leeds United starlet Archie Gray has been given backing as the Whites hope to bring the Spurs man back to Elland Road next season.

Rodon was outstanding for Daniel Farke’s men last term and helped them to the brink of promotion back to the Premier League. They fell at the final hurdle, however, losing to Southampton in the play-off final, meaning a number of players’ futures now remain in the balance.

Two of those are Rodon and Gray, with the latter tipped for huge things in the game. At just 18 he has bossed matches from numerous positions and Leeds are keen to keep him in Yorkshire but Spurs have been backed to make a move for the teenager.

Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton believes he is perfect for Ange Postecoglou’s side, adding any move would have to involve “big cash” as well as the Swansea City graduate.

“It would have to be big cash, not just Rodon, I think it would be a lot of money on top of that” he told Football Insider.

“He’s had an outstanding season. The guy has played at full-back, played in midfield, played as a number 10, the list goes on.

“I think he’s only going to get better. He plays with such freedom and it’s refreshing to see.

“The way Ange plays, that’s perfectly suited to him. He’s comfortable coming inside and taking the ball with his back to play and getting forward with his ability to cross into the box.

“He’s so young as well. It’s going to be a big fee, but looking to the future, if they can bring someone like him in now, he could be there for years to come.

“That would be an brilliant signing for them.”
