Families could be in for a significant saving, with the potential to slash £300 off their energy bills. A recent survey has highlighted that homeowners might pocket nearly £300 annually by implementing a few home improvements.

In collaboration with Smart Energy GB, MoneyMagpie divulged several energy-saving tips that could see your bills reduced by hundreds each year. Among the advice given, one key suggestion is to reduce the frequency of using washing machines.

Experts are advising customers to wash "less of yourselves and less of your clothes", recommending shorter showers, ideally under 10 minutes, and cutting down on weekly laundry loads. Additionally, they suggest air drying garments instead of relying on tumble dryers.

The guidance extends to household habits such as employing switch timers and optimising battery usage. It's also recommended that customers regularly bleed radiators to enhance efficiency and avoid the habitual use of standby mode.

The Energy Saving Trust, with updated figures from British Gas, has exposed the substantial costs incurred by 'vampire devices' left on standby, including microwaves at £16.37 per annum, washing machines costing £4.73, and electric showers adding up to £9.80 each year, reports Birmingham Live.

Moreover, customers are being reminded of the importance of defrosting freezers. Experts caution that as ice accumulates over time, not only does it limit storage space, but it also diminishes the freezer's efficiencya particularly pertinent issue amidst the ongoing Cost of Living crisis affecting residents across the nation.

They advised: "When your freezer is defrosted, fill empty gaps on shelves and in drawers with water-filled ziplock bags. When you need the space, remove the bag. Freezers are more efficient when they are full than empty, so filling spare space like this helps improve its efficiency."

Some freezers even feature a handy built-in defrost mode for when things start to look too icy, with many models available from retailers such as AO.
