Billionaire’s Mansion: 45-Bedroom Hyde Park House Receives Bid Of £280m

It could be one of the biggest bargains in British property history, but to get a good deal, someone is going to have to pay a lot of money.

A massive mansion at Hyde Park in London is on the verge of finally being sold after lying empty for three years.

The home, at 2-8a Rutland Gate in Knightsbridge, is set to become Britain’s most expensive house, if a reported private bid of £280 million is accepted.

Proving that even billionaires know a good deal when they see one, the rumoured bid is a good £20 million below the original asking price of £300 million.

So what do you get for your money? A house with 60,000 sq ft of space, 45 bedrooms to rotate between for your afternoon naps and a swimming pool in the basement.

The property could have come with an eye-watering collection of 1,200 items, ranging from £70,000 chandeliers to £300,000 gold plated bath taps.

However, the mystery buyer is said to be uninterested in these extras, which are being sold off a separate auction over two days this week. The contents of the house are thought to be worth £50 million, yet may only fetch as little as £500,000 in an ‘everything must go’ sale.

The mansion has been up for sale since 2012, following the death of its owner, Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

The sale is being handled by property agents Swiss Group.
