Birmingham City are likely to begin their 2024/25 League One campaign away from St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

The EFL fixtures aren’t out until Wednesday, June 26 but the fact Aston Villa are away on the opening weekend of the Premier League season – which begins a week later than the EFL – suggests Blues will be on the road first up. Blues and Villa aren’t scheduled to play in the Second City on the same day – unless they are facing each other – due to policing.

Villa travel to West Ham on August 17, which means Blues are likely to play their first League One match at St Andrew’s on that weekend. The EFL season begins on the weekend of August 10 and 11.

It was a similar situation last year when Blues opened up on the road at Swansea City before returning to St Andrew’s the following week to host Leeds United on a raucous occasion.

Interestingly, Villa are away at Newcastle United on Boxing Day. Blues should therefore be on home turf for the showpiece festive fixture. Blues lost 3-1 to Stoke City on Boxing Day last year and Wayne Rooney was sacked two games later.

Sky Sports are broadcasting more EFL games than ever before this season. Despite their relegation to League One, Blues will appear on Sky a minimum of 20 times across 2024/25.

Every match outside the traditional 3pm Saturday blackout will be screened live, with a minimum of two televised games each weekend in League One. Every fixture on the opening and closing weekends of the season will be broadcast by Sky Sports.
