Birmingham could be without five players to face Coventry City as injuries hit relegation threatened Blues

Gary Rowett expects Birmingham City to still be without injured trio Marc Roberts, Oliver Burke and Lukas Jutkiewicz when Coventry visit St Andrew’s on Saturday.

Defender Roberts, right winger Burke and striker Jutkiewicz haven’t been available to Rowett in his opening four games in charge. Veteran striker Jutkiewicz has been a big miss with Blues lacking physicality and punch in attack during his absence.

Club captain and former Sky Blues striker Jutkiewicz has travelled to the games against QPR and Leicester with the squad. The 34-year-old could be seen jogging across the pitch with a member of Blues’ backroom team before kick-off at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Giving his latest injury update after the defeat to Cardiff on Wednesday evening, Rowett said: “I think we’ll still be missing Jutkiewicz, maybe Burke and Roberts. They’re the three players I think that are out at the moment.”

Rowett has named the same starting line-up for the past three games but he could make changes following the Cardiff match. Blues are languishing in 23rd place in the Championship and will be relegated unless they can string some results together in the final four games.

The interim Blues boss added: “Of course at this stage of the season when you perform like that there’s always going to be an opportunity potentially to make quite a few changes. We have tried to keep the same team, a team I felt could win games of football. We didn’t perform to that level and after trying to get that consistency and continuity I think it’s maybe the time to look at whether people get an opportunity.”

In addition to the aforementioned trio, Lee Buchanan was taken off against Cardiff with a groin injury and long-term absentee Alfie Chang will miss out.
