Cole Palmer has offered his verdict on the penalty drama that ensued during Chelsea's 6-0 win against Everton. The Blues were already four goals in front, with Palmer bagging three of them, when a spot-kick was awarded following a foul from Abdoulaye Doucoure on Chelsea's star man.

Considering Chelsea were comfortably leading, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson both wanted to take the penalty, despite Palmer still being on the pitch. The 21-year-old had converted all eight of his penalties so far this season and he understandably wanted to make it nine despite the score line.

After it initially looked as though Madueke was going to take it, Conor Gallagher pulled rank as captain and gave the ball to Palmer. The penalty was subsequently converted but Madueke looked far from impressed before he was later replaced by Carney Chukwuemeka.

Following the win, Palmer was asked for his thoughts on the penalty antics with it very clear to the 21-year-old why he should have and did take it. "Other players wanted to take it which is understandable with the game at 4-0," he told Sky Sports. "But, I’m the penalty taker and I wanted to take it so in the end I took it.

"I think we just are just trying to show everyone that everyone wants to take responsibility and stuff like that. Maybe it was a bit over the top with the arguing and stuff, but everyone wants to win, help and stuff so it’s nothing major. We were laughing and joking about it. The gaffer has told us now."

Pochettino was also asked for his thoughts on what happened and the Chelsea boss certainly did not mince his words. "It’s a shame," he told Sky Sports. "I was telling the players when we arrived from the pitch. We had a meeting with all the staff also and we explained and were talking.

"For me it is a shame because we cannot behave in this way. I told them that this is the last time that I accept this type of behaviour, all involved in this situation, all out the next time. It’s impossible after a performance like this to have this type of behaviour that shows that we are in a process and we will learn a lot. We are a great team fighting for big things. We need to change and think more in a collective way.

"It’s so clear and I made clear to them and through you, to the fans and to everyone that Cole Palmer is the taker, and then if Palmer wants to give it to another he can. But not in this way. That is a really sad situation that happened and I don’t expect that to happen again."
