Good Morning Britain made for uncomfortable viewing today (July 21) when The Black Eyed Peas appeared on the show for a live interview.

will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap were on the programme via a video link from Comic Con in San Diego, where they are currently promoting their new comic book Masters of the Sun.

However, at the end of their chat, presenters Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh asked the trio about the tragic death of their close friend Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.

It's been less that 24 hours since his passing was announced – and the band looked devastated when they were asked to comment.

will.i.am noticeably covered his face with his hand before plucking up the courage to talk.

He said: "For someone in music, for someone that we have known for years... I mean we were just with him a month ago. I just saw him in Amsterdam two months ago. We are sending our hearts to his family and all the other members of Linkin Park."

apl.de.ap added: "He's a hero of a lot of people. We are just devastated. It's a very sad day."

Taboo didn't comment at all on the matter and kept his head down staring at the ground.

When the presenters then wrapped up the interview and said goodbye to the band, none of the members responded.

Viewers tuning in at home were quick to pick up on the awkward scenes.

One tweeted: "Good one @GMB will i am clearly looked upset and uncomfortable but you continued to ask how he felt of the passing of his friend #norespect."

Another then wrote: "How insensitive to comment on the death of a man who was clearly their friend. Sometimes news should think before they speak!"

A third added: "Well they killed the mood of that interview didn't they... #GoodMorningBritain #GMB."

Bennington was found dead at the age of 41 on Thursday (July 20) at the Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles in what law enforcement officials are initially investigating as a possible suicide, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office confirmed to The AP.

He died on what would have been the 53rd birthday of his close friend and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who died from suicide back in May.

Bennington leaves behind six children from his relationships with his wife Talinda Bentley, ex-wife Samantha Olit and ex-partner Elka Brand.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
