The latest Avengers comic book sees King T'Challa appointed as the leader of the superhero clan, which could be a major hint at his role in any future Avengers movies.

Released this week and written by Jason Aaron – with illustrations from Ed McGuinness – the new entry welcomes a very democratic approach to the heroes electing their powerful leader. The entire team come to a unanimous decision, with every single Avenger wanting the Black Panther as their superior (via Comic Book).

Although the African superhero has some reservations, he quickly steps up to the role.

With next year's Avengers 4 rumoured to be reshuffling the line-up of earth's mightiest heroes, the new comic book development has fans wondering if the storyline could soon play out on the big screen.

It must be said, T'Challa would certainly offer less egocentricity than his colleagues, plus he probably wouldn't build evil sentient robots voiced by James Spader.

Previously, Black Panther producer Nate Moore hinted that the character might not always be played by Chadwick Boseman.

"One thing I like to tell Ryan [Coogler] is, the Black Panther is a mantle as much as it is a person, so we're not restricted by anything, because the truth is, there's a lot of different ways to go back to Wakanda and have a good time and continue to explore the themes that made the first film so resonant."
