Blackburn with Darwen local election candidates 2024 as voters prepare to head to polls

The local elections are almost here, and the people of Blackburn and Darwen are preparing to head to the polls.

Candidates will be standing in 15 wards across the borough. The polls will be open on May 2 from 7am until 10pm – and voters must take a suitable form of photo ID with them in order to cast their ballot in person.

Proxy votes can also be obtained in some circumstances – meaning someone else can vote on your behalf if you cannot make it to a polling station for a limited number of reasons.

Across England, more than 2,500 council seats will be up for grabs in 107 local authorities. Mayoral elections are taking place in Greater Manchester as well as East Midland, Liverpool City Region, North East, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, York and North Yorkshire, London and Salford.

May's local elections are the last big electoral test for all the political parties before the general election, which is expected to take place later this year.
