A pub in Blackburn has closed with reports that the windows have been boarded up.

Daniel Thwaites pub The Ivy Hotel in Blackburn is closed but a spokesperson said it is set to reopen in August and a "local couple" is set to take over.

Thwaites said repairs and maintenance is set to be carried out at the Infirmary Street pub. This includes a new 'beer dispense kit'.

A small, internal renovation is also being planned “to ensure the pub is looking its best for opening night”.

A spokesperson for Thwaites said it looks forward to the pub “becoming the heard of the local community once again”.

They said: “The Ivy Hotel is set to re-open early in August now that we have agreed terms with a local couple.

"We are having to carry out repairs and maintenance ensure the pub is back in good order for the opening night, following getting possession of the pub back from the previous tenant.

"This includes all new beer dispense kit to guarantee great quality beer is served, and we’re looking forward to the pub becoming the heart of the local community once again.”

Thwaites was looking for a new manager for the pub last month

The site description said: “Internally there is a good-sized bar, a pool, a darts area, a catering kitchen, and an open fire.

“To the rear, there is a beer garden and a children’s park.

“The living accommodation consists of two bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a separate WC. There is an upper floor to the living accommodation which isn’t currently in use, this contains a further two bedrooms.”

The Ivy is not the only Thwaites pub in East Lancashire that’s set to reopen under new management.

The Hare and Hounds, in Skipton Old Road, closed on March 6.

At the time, Thwaites said it is in the "final stages" of a deal with a "great, local" operator who “plans to bring the pub back to the centre of the community”.

The pub reopened in June.
