Blackpool is in mourning following the death of a nightclub owner described as a local legend.

Andy Singleton, or Singy to his friends and family, was a well-known nightclub manager in Blackpool who was responsible for overseeing Syndicate as well as Brannigans and Home & HQ. The 61-year-old died in hospital on May 17 with his family and wife Angela by his side.

Will Ritchie described Andy as a "friend and mentor to many in Blackpool's nightlife industry". "For me he was the main reason I considered nightclub work in the first place," Will posted on Facebook.

"He was a strong leader, effective communicator and he ran a tight ship. I remember him always being the life and soul of family gatherings when I was younger and he lived his life to the fullest like we all should do. My sincere condolences to Angela and all of Andy's loved ones."

Gary Peck wrote: "Our friend, our boss, our leader, a man, a good man who created so many memories for many, gave so many opportunities to people where others wouldn’t.

"He took me under his wing many times and allowed me to excel and progress as a DJ and as a person in the Blackpool nightlife, even when I wasn’t working for him, well, with him as he’d like to call it he’d still always message me giving advice if I needed it and would come and see me wherever I was.

"He would always be there if needed for anyone, made time for his many, many friends in amongst his own busy life, a true gentleman and an absolute workhorse that gave his all and lived his life right up until the end."

Jack Boon posted: "I'm deeply saddened to hear about Andy Singleton's passing. He was a true local legend in the pub and club scene and a significant figure in my life.

"Andy gave me my first break as a DJ, believing in me when no one else did. I'll never forget the night he said, 'We don't need cover, Jack can do it'.

"His confidence in me kick-started my career. Beyond being a manager, he became a great friend, sharing unforgettable conversations during our drives home from the club.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to Angela Singleton and the entire family. Rest in peace, Andy. Your advice, support, and friendship will always be cherished."
