Bob Geldof: 'Peaches' Death Left Me Contemplating Suicide'

Bob Geldof has opened up about his daughter Peaches’ death, admitting that his shock and grief following the 25-year-old’s heroin overdose back in 2014 left him contemplating suicide.

Thankfully Bob called a close friend to ask for help when he reached breaking point, with the pal talking him out of his negative mindset.

The 64-year-old candidly revealed: “I’d make lists and keep working at the writing of those lists until the upside overwhelmed the downside.

"In my case I wrote: ‘What’s the upside of being alive?’ and ‘What’s the downside of it?’. Was it ever really serious? Overall, no. In that moment though, perhaps it was.

"I had the sanity, luckily, to phone a friend and tell him, ‘Look I think I’m just starting to get irrational’. He almost slapped my face (with his tone) and said ‘Don’t do anything f*cking stupid, stay exactly where you are’ and came around very quickly.

"People talk you through these things.”

Bob went on to add that the support from his male friends was the most important thing to him at the tragic time in his life, continuing: “Men and women are very different. Women want you to talk everything out whereas with men it’s good enough if we’re just with each other

"I remember the lads coming around and just occasionally catching each other’s eye. Nobody really said anything but when they’d all gone I felt they had given me a bit of relief.”

However, marrying his long-term girlfriend Jeanne Marine one year after Peaches’ death helped Bob get through his heartache.

Explaining the reason behind proposing during his darkest days, he told the Sunday Independent: “Peaches had just died and I decided that John Lennon, in all his glorious naivety was right; love is all you need.

”[Marriage] didn’t make us love each other any more but I asked her in front of all our friends and family.“

We’re glad to hear that Bob is in a much happier place now.
