Bobby Davro: 'EastEnders Didn't Pay Me Enough'

Bobby Davro has spoken out about the real reason he quit EastEnders back in 2008, admitting that he was fed-up with BBC bosses not paying him enough.

Ooer.

The 57-year-old comic joined the soap in 2007 and has now revealed that he was barely able to live on the wages that he earned.

Although something tells us that he probably earned a fair bit more than minimum wage…

Speaking in a new interview, Bobby explained: “I couldn’t afford to stay on EastEnders because I needed a certain amount of money to run my lifestyle.

"I’ve got an ex-wife and children to support.

"I kept getting offered other jobs that would benefit me more so I had to take the financial step and leave the show.”Bobby walked off the BBC soap after being offered more money to star in panto.

"I couldn’t afford to keep doing EastEnders on that money just to be seen to be doing something on TV. When I was offered panto that became a problem. I ended up leaving the show and doing the panto and I was very well paid.”

Bobby added to the Daily Star that he was disappointed his onscreen character, Vinnie Monks, didn’t turn into one of the soap’s iconic and best-loved characters.

He shared: “I enjoyed my time on EastEnders but there wasn’t the opportunity to get involved in a big way. They didn’t write enough for my character.

"Maybe the character just wasn’t big enough for them to develop. That happens in soaps. I didn’t want to stay if things weren’t going to develop. They said they couldn’t promise it would and I left.”

Here’s hoping that Danny Dyer never faces the same problem, eh?
