Body Of Kayaker Found In Fiancee Murder Case

The body of a missing kayaker who was allegedly killed last month by his fiancee has reportedly been found.

Vincent Viafore, 46, had been missing since 19 April when his kayak capsized in the Hudson River about 50 miles north of New York City

Angelika Graswald, 35, who had been his fiancee, is charged with second-degree murder.

Mr Viafore's body was discovered about a mile south of where his kayak capsized, near Bannerman Island, where Graswald was a gardening volunteer.

The body was immediately taken to a medical examiner, according to local media.

Graswald, a Latvian expatriate, admitted to tampering with Mr Viafore's kayak while the couple paddled on the Hudson.

She later confessed "it felt good knowing he would die" , a prosecutor said at Graswald's bail hearing.

Mr Viafore was not wearing a life jacket.

Graswald felt trapped and stood to benefit from $250,000 (£160,000) in life insurance policies, say prosecutors.

It is not clear how Graswald allegedly tampered with her fiance's kayak, but investigators say it capsized after filling with water.

Mr Viafore held on to his boat for five to 10 minutes in the cold, choppy water.

Witnesses say Graswald intentionally capsized her own kayak, say investigators.

She was rescued by another boater and treated for hypothermia.

Graswald is being held on $3m (£1.94m) bail.
